| The Castlevania series that started back on the NES has always been a personal favorite of mine that is a nod to all the popular horror tropes from way back when. Throughout the series, the games have had a variety of different styles. It started off as a typical platformer, but then it eventually went in a bunch of different directions. Konami decided to make Metroidvanias, beat em ups, hack and slashes, and even tried making hybrids of each. I obviously can't forget to bring up the kickass soundtrack the series is known for.
I still find it weird that my favorite Dracula theme "Dance of Illusions" is in 64 which was a game where they didn't give 2 shits about the soundtrack. Seriously, listen to that when you get the chance.
Everyone has their own personal opinion on what style they prefer. Personally, I prefer the Metroidvania/Platformer hybrid that you'd find in Ecclesia, Lament, and even 64 to an extent.
Throughout the 20+ years that the series has been alive, it's sad to see it fall down the same hole that many of Konami's game series have fallen into, and I can't wait for Bloodstained.
Just a little something I thought I'd throw out there since I've been replaying some of the games in the series. Let me know if you're a fan of the series and what your favorite/least favorite game is, and why. Heck, even talk about which style you prefer if you'd like. |
